Alfred Uihlein Family Professorship in Neurologic Surgery Program

Alfred Uihlien Family Professor in Neurologic Surgery Program

Mayo Clinic offers the Alfred Uihlein Family Professorship in Neurologic Surgery Program, a comprehensive training program for neurologic surgery-oriented basic or clinical research. This summer research fellowship matches medical students with physician-scientists within the Department of Neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

The health needs of U.S. minority populations have been studied inadequately, due in part to the shortage of clinical researchers belonging to underrepresented groups. The purpose of the Alfred Uihlein Family Professorship in Neurologic Surgery Program is to attract outstanding surgeons, teachers, and students to come to Mayo Clinic in the field of neurologic surgery and to help underwrite the long-term financial requirements of graduate and undergraduate medical teaching at Mayo.

Program goals:

  • Provide research opportunities in neurologic surgery to emerging medical students
  • Encourage students to apply and matriculate at Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education as neurologic surgery residents
  • Encourage medical students to consider long-term faculty positions at Mayo Clinic
