Mayo Clinic’s primary value, the needs of the patient come first, provides the foundational core for what it means to be a trainee at Mayo Clinic. If you want to train in an advanced, patient-focused critical care environment I encourage you to consider our program.
With more than 200 intensive care unit (ICU) beds across 9 specialties learners are immersed in diverse critical care environments. We have numerous highly trained preceptors in various specialty areas that are heavily engrained in the multidisciplinary practice. This allows for individualized mentorship and opportunities for collaboration on research and education.
Our program offers robust training in research, professional development, and teaching. We prepare you to be a well-rounded, skilled leader. We believe in the importance of fostering teachers and mentors of the future and investing time in developing trainees not only as clinicians, but also as people.

Dedicated preceptors
Preceptors for the PGY-2 critical care residency provide direct patient care in virtually every specialty area and are actively involved in resident teaching and other scholarly activities. The preceptors come from diverse backgrounds and share numerous years of experience, clinical knowledge, and research interests. Residents have direct access to these and many more preceptors and mentors to optimize the learning experience.
Over 20 preceptors for the PGY-2 critical care residency at Mayo Clinic are certified by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties in one or more areas, including Board Certified Critical Care Pharmacist (BCCCP). All residency program preceptors meet the qualifications outlined by the ASHP.

The Department of Pharmacy at Mayo Clinic employs nearly 730 individuals, including approximately 350 pharmacists, to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical services.

Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester is composed of the Saint Marys Campus (1,265 beds) and Methodist Campus (794 beds). In the hospital environment, pharmacists work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health care team to optimize patient outcomes.
Pharmacists, residents and students are longstanding, integral members of a team that continually advance the pharmacy profession. Pharmacists at Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester process nearly 11,000 computerized physician orders each day and document approximately 15,000 electronic medication-related interventions a month.
Outpatient
Mayo Clinic has a very large outpatient practice — more than 1.4 million visits each year — with care provided in virtually every specialty. Nearly 3,500 prescriptions are filled each day at Mayo Clinic outpatient pharmacies.
Pharmacists support this large practice through multiple pharmacy locations, including primary practice, hospital dismissal, a communication center, and an automated processing center. Medication therapy management services in a variety of specialties are provided to optimize patients' regimens.
