Program description

The one-year Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Dental Oncology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, prepares you for a career in private practice, a hospital setting or academia.

You receive intensive training in intraoral and extraoral maxillofacial prosthetics and work with patients undergoing surgical procedures, advanced radiation therapy and chemotherapy due to cancer, trauma or congenital malformations.

Mayo Clinic's program is unique because of its small size, flexible curriculum, dedicated staff and excellent rapport with other medical and surgical specialties. Although the emphasis is on clinical practice, the program also includes an extensive didactic program and research opportunities.

Accreditation

The program fulfills the training requirements as defined by the American Board of Prosthodontics and is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Program history

The Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Dental Oncology Fellowship became a separate one-year fellowship in 2016. Previously, its training was included within the four-year Prosthodontics Residency, which began in 1966.

All fellows who have trained in prosthodontics over the past decade are actively involved in prosthodontic patient care and many maintain academic affiliations.
