Positions

The fellowship has nine positions, each with a two-year duration. Therefore, either one or two slots (depending on the recruitment year) are available on a competitive basis each year in the Medical Psychology Fellowship for each specialty area: Clinical Child Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology, and Clinical Neuropsychology (adult and pediatric tracks).

Qualifications

To be eligible for the Medical Psychology Fellowship, you must have successfully completed an American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA)-accredited clinical or counseling psychology doctoral program and an APA- or CPA-accredited predoctoral psychology internship.

Compensation is Graduate Level 1 for fellowship year 1 and Graduate Level 2 for fellowship year 2.

How to apply

While the academic year begins July 1, our fellowship differs from other Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education programs in that start dates are flexible (between July and October), depending on the individual circumstances for each postdoctoral fellow.

Application submission deadlines for the 2024-2026 academic year for each specialty area are:

• Clinical Child Psychology: Dec. 11, 2023
• Clinical Health Psychology: Dec. 10, 2023
• Clinical Neuropsychology (adult): Dec. 4, 2023 (In limited circumstances, additional applications may be accepted through Jan. 2, 2024; contact the training director to inquire)

You must apply through the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC), using the association's APPIC Psychology Postdoctoral Application (APPA) CAS (centralized application service).

1. Visit the APPA CAS applicant website. All applications to Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education programs must include these application materials.

   Instead of a dean's letter, this program requires a letter of recommendation from your graduate school training director. Ask your training director to document that you are in good standing and on track to complete the training program before you start our fellowship.

   Please submit your most recent transcripts, as we understand that most applicants will not have their official, final transcripts and diploma available at the time of application. Three additional letters of recommendation from others familiar with your skills and qualifications should be submitted with your online application.
   
   Adult Neuropsychology applicants should submit a de-identified sample neuropsychological assessment report following the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services de-identification standards. When in doubt, please delete ALL potentially identifying information (it is fine if details are obfuscated to maintain privacy; we prefer an abundance of caution here).

2. The Clinical Neuropsychology program adult track does not participate in the APPCN match. 

3. Candidates applying for the Clinical Neuropsychology adult track must apply through APPA CAS. Reprints or pre-prints of published manuscripts may also be provided (optional). Submit all application materials by the recommended application deadline above to guarantee full review of application materials. In limited circumstances, new applications may be considered after the Dec. 14, 2023, deadline (email our program administrator to inquire). Select applicants will be invited for a virtual interview. If the position remains unfilled, select applicants may meet with a member of the selection committee at the North American Meeting of the International Neuropsychological Society. Because the Clinical Neuropsychology program adult track is not participating in the APPCN match, offers may be made at any time. 

4. All interviews will be done virtually via Zoom for the 2024-2026 recruitment cycle. If you are considered for a position, you will be invited for a personal interview with the program director, the director for your specialty, selected faculty, and current fellows in the program. Interviews are conducted in January and February, and offers are made directly by specialty track directors.
