Program highlights
The Perioperative Nursing Fellowship is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary for a nursing career in the operating room. This course includes didactic materials and clinical experiences to prepare competent, entry-level, perioperative registered nurses.
Clinical experiences that include scrubbing and circulating in general and specialty procedures will take place at Mayo Clinic Hospital, part of Mayo Clinic's campus in Phoenix, Arizona.
Explore what a perioperative nurse does
A perioperative nurse is a registered nurse (R.N.) who works in the operating room. Sometimes called a surgical or an operating room nurse, this specialized nurse cares for patients before, during, and after surgery.
Completion and certification
You receive a certificate of completion and 16 college credit hours from Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences and will be awarded approximately 40 contact hours from the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) upon successful completion of the fellowship and comprehensive final exam.
Perioperative nurses are eligible to take the CNOR certification exam after completing two years of perioperative nursing.
