Undergraduate Plummer Scholars (UPS) Program

The Mayo Clinic Undergraduate Plummer Scholars (UPS) is an online training program designed to expose, excite, and engage undergraduates with high potential of pursuing a career in medicine.
The program spans nine months during the academic school year and includes distance learning webinars on topics including MCAT prep, summer research opportunities, the medical student experience, and the medical school application and interview process.
Webinars are conducted via Zoom and are held on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. Central Time every other month. The webinar program dates are Oct. 26, Dec. 21, Feb. 15, and April 19.
Undergraduate Plummer Scholars Plus (UPS+)
The Undergraduate Plummer Scholars Plus (UPS+) Summer Program is a week-long program hosted at all three Mayo Clinic campuses (Arizona, Minnesota, and Florida). The intensive program allows students to explore the physician profession and prepare for medical school admissions.
Guided by a team of faculty and staff, UPS summer scholars will participate in clinical shadowing activities as well as workshops and sessions aimed at developing skills and strategies for the medical school admissions process.
The Academic Year Undergraduate Plummer Scholars Program runs from October to April. The week-long UPS+ Summer Program is held in June and July.

- Near peer mentorship with Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine students
Following the UPS+ summer program, scholars receive MCAT preparation through the Princeton Review, including 66 hours of instruction, practice tests, books and resources, and hotline assistance. Long-term mentorship with a Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine Medical Students helps ensure that scholars are well-supported in their journey to medical school.

Prerequisites
The UPS+ Summer Program is open to current sophomores or equivalent who are participating in the Undergraduate Plummer Scholars Academic Year Program. Applicants must have a strong interest in attending medical school, pursuing a career as a physician, and plans to take the MCAT in the next 12 months. * Students must be able to travel throughout the campus in an efficient manner and observe physicians in procedural areas, with or without accommodations.
