Undergraduate Plummer Scholars (UPS) Program
The Mayo Clinic Undergraduate Plummer Scholars (UPS) is an online training program designed to expose, excite, and engage underrepresented undergraduates with high potential of pursuing a career in medicine.
The program spans nine months during the academic school year and includes distance learning webinars on topics including MCAT prep, summer research opportunities, the medical student experience, and the medical school application and interview process.
Webinars are conducted via Zoom and are held on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. Central Time every other month. The webinar program dates are Oct. 26, Dec. 21, Feb. 15, and April 19.
Undergraduate Plummer Scholars Plus (UPS+)
The Undergraduate Plummer Scholars Plus (UPS+) is a distinct track within the larger UPS program specifically for outstanding students with a GPA of at least 3.2 and plans to take the MCAT in the next 12 months.
Academic Year UPS students only can apply for admission to an intensive week-long UPS+ Summer Program in June and July 2025 between one of our three campuses in Arizona, Minnesota, or Florida.
UPS+ students also have the opportunity to apply for admission to an intensive week-long UPS+ Summer Program in June and July2025. This includes a one-week in-person session (Arizona, June 1-7; Minnesota, June 15-21; Florida, July 13-19, 2025).
Following the UPS+ summer program, scholars receive MCAT preparation through The Princeton Review, including 66 hours of instructions, practice tests, books and resources, and hotline assistance. Long-term mentorship with a Mayo Clinic physician helps ensure that scholars are well-supported in their journey to medical school.
Students accepted into the summer program will also participate in near-peer mentorship with Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine medical students.
Completion of the UPS Academic Year Program and separate application for UPS+ is required.
A separate application for UPS+ is required. Summer program applications for eligible students will be available in December 2024.
