The Neurodiagnostic Clinical Rotation at Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida, is designed to provide students with theory and clinical experience in a variety of EEG, EP, and PSG testing procedures. Students will obtain the necessary instruction to become a competent Electroneurodiagnostic (END) technologist.

Instruction is provided through web-based software, along with one-on-one clinical instruction overseen by a registered technologist, though students may train with an unregistered technologist. The program length is one year and includes instruction in EEG, EP, PSG, and NCV technologies. Courses are offered over four quarters beginning in the fall of each year. The program is a combination of web-based instruction and clinical experience. Students must be highly motivated and willing to work at a fast pace. Clinical experience will be done at a pre-approved clinical site where students will obtain hands-on experience for a minimum of 16 hours/week.

Graduation and certification

Students will earn a certificate in Clinical Neurophysiology after successful completion of the one-year program and will be eligible to sit for the national R. EEG T. exam.

Application process

Interested students will need to apply for acceptance into the program with one of our affiliated schools. Crozer-Chester School of Clinical Neurophysiology offers a start date in fall (September). The Institute of Health Sciences offers a start date of fall and spring every year.

Prerequisites

Eligible students must be:

  • High school graduate
  • BLS
  • Preferably one year of high school biology and Algebra II

Admission to Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences is open to U.S. workers in the four categories below. Therefore, visa sponsorship is not available.

Applicants whose primary language is not English must submit results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT). Scores from the speaking portion of the exam are given particular consideration in admission decisions. Learn more about the exam and register online at the Educational Testing Service.

The Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences code for the TOEFL iBT is 5784.

Educational transcripts from schools outside the U.S. must be translated (if they are not already in English) and evaluated for U.S. equivalence by an accredited credential evaluation service company prior to submission. Please refer to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services for a list of qualified companies. The applicant pays for the examination and credential-evaluation services.

Curriculum

Students will study the theory and clinical experience of EEG, NCV, PSG, and EP over the course of four quarters. Upon completion of the program, the student will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist exam.

Schedule 

Coursework will be completed online with two, eight-hour clinical days per week located at Mayo Clinic Hospital learning hands-on skills of the profession.
