Students studying for a respiratory therapy (associate, bachelor, or master’s) degree are selected to complete a portion of their professional education at Mayo Clinic.

Graduation and certification

The Respiratory Therapy Clinical Rotation prepares learners to be eligible for registration for the National Board of Respiratory Care exam.

Application process

Learners enrolled in a CoARC-participating respiratory therapy program are eligible to apply for the Respiratory Therapy Clinical Rotation.

Prerequisites

Enrollment in a CoARC-accredited respiratory therapy program is a prerequisite to apply. 

Non-U.S. citizen applicants

Admission to Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences is open to U.S. workers in the four categories below. Therefore, visa sponsorship is not available.

  1. U.S. citizens
  2. U.S. nationals
  3. Lawful permanent residents
  4. Asylees and refugees

Applicants whose primary language is not English must submit results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT). Scores from the speaking portion of the exam are given particular consideration in admission decisions. Learn more about the exam and register online at the Educational Testing Service.

The Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences code for the TOEFL iBT is 5784.

Educational transcripts from schools outside the U.S. must be translated (if they are not already in English) and evaluated for U.S. equivalence by an accredited credential evaluation service company prior to submission. Please refer to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services for a list of qualified companies. The applicant pays for the examination and credential-evaluation services.

How to apply

Students can be recommended by their program director, or may contact the Mayo Clinic Respiratory Therapy Clinical Rotation Program directly.

Interviews will be conducted as a virtual screening with the program director, who will then notify successful applicants of their acceptance into the program.

Tuition and financial aid

You pay tuition to the school that you are attending. Mayo Clinic charges no additional fees.

You are responsible for providing your living accommodations and transportation. 

Curriculum

Learners will participate in a highly-functioning department whose staff work at the top of their licenses. The Respiratory Therapy Clinical Rotation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, provides an unrivaled breadth and depth of experience.

Schedule

The Respiratory Therapy Clinical Rotation includes 36-48 hours of instruction, and is offered in the summer and the fall. Each clinical rotation lasts 14-30 days in duration. Each student is on campus for approximately 10-12 hours per day.
