The Clinical Research Coordinator Internship Program allows undergraduate and graduate students the chance to learn how Mayo Clinic conducts clinical research studies and trials. Throughout the unpaid internship program, students will gain insight into the crucial role performed by clinical research coordinators, including how they provide research-related patient care and protect data integrity. Interns will acquire practical skills through a range of experiential and observational opportunities, such as:
- Observing and assisting clinical research coordinators in each clinical studies unit, including cancer, neurology, and the general studies unit
- Observing and assisting the various roles that support clinical research
- Contributing to organizational projects under mentorship
- Participating in conversations with senior staff members to learn more about clinical research and the role of the clinical research coordinator
- Practicing interview skills

Prerequisites
This is an in-person internship opportunity with a set schedule. Students are expected to complete 20 hours per week on-site at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, campus.
Students must be enrolled in a degree program and have an interest in a health care career. Ideal applicants include:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree students:
- Majoring in health professions, biological and biomedical sciences, or psychology
- Pursuing other majors while completing a badge or certification program in clinical research
- From other majors with experience in research or patient care
Associate’s degree or certificate students:
- Pursuing an associate’s degree in clinical research
- Enrolled in an approved clinical research certification program
The internship must be required by your institution for degree credit. You must successfully complete the required pre-professional and professional college coursework at your college or university before you are eligible to complete the internship.

- Complete each section of the application and submit.
- After submission:
- Select the "View" button next to your application.
- Select the "Supplemental Items & Documents" tab.

Application review and interviews
Program leadership reviews applications upon submission. Based on application quality, selected students will be asked to participate in a 10- to 15-minute phone or Zoom interview.
Typically, you can expect a final decision within two weeks after the close date of the application window.
The Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science Office of Non-Clinical Education Programs in Florida will work directly with accepted students to obtain proper paperwork, including a background check, drug screen, required immunizations, and enrollment verifications. Students also must sign a statement of confidentiality before beginning the experience.
Schedule and time commitment
Opportunities are available in person. No remote options are available. Typical business days are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected students will work with their mentors to determine a mutually agreeable schedule.
Interns are required to commit to a minimum of 20 hours a week for the duration of the semester with minimal flexibility in the last two weeks, regardless of a student's academic internship requirements.
Tuition and financial aid
Tuition rates are determined by and paid to the college or university at which you are enrolled. Mayo Clinic Office of Non-Clinical Education Programs charges no additional fees for the Clinical Research Coordinator Internship Program.
