The Centers for Humanities in Medicine in Jacksonville, Florida and Rochester, Minnesota, provides undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate students opportunities to integrate the arts and other expressions of human culture into the healing environment of the hospital and outpatient clinics. This internship aims to provide you with hands-on, practical experience to enhance your knowledge of the integration of arts and humanities into in a healthcare setting.
As an intern in this program, you will be exposed to and participate in:
- Completing administrative duties and workflows for existing programming
- Helping develop new humanities-based programs within patient care, education, and research
- Assisting the Humanities in Medicine staff in programs that promote the development of well-rounded healthcare professionals who are trained in the art of medicine as an essential professional asset

Application review and interviews
Program leadership reviews applications upon submission. Based on application quality, selected students will be asked to participate in a 10- to 15-minute phone or Zoom interview.
Typically, you can expect a final decision within two weeks after the close date of the application window.
The Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science Office of Non-Clinical Education Programs will work directly with accepted students to obtain proper paperwork, including a background check, drug screen, required immunizations, proof of active medical insurance, and enrollment verifications. Students also must sign a statement of confidentiality before beginning the experience.
Stipend and benefits
Admitted students receive a $1,500 USD stipend and will receive pay at the end of the internship experience.
Schedule and time commitment
Interns are required to commit to a minimum of 20 hours a week for the duration of the semester with minimal flexibility in the last two weeks. Typical business days are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
