Training can be challenging, but our program is close-knit, and each fellow brings a dedication to providing stellar patient care and a collaborative learning experience.
Alexander Hysong, M.D.
Hometown: Bethesda, MD
Hobbies: Watching new shows and movies with my wife, running, and trying new restaurants
Family: Married with a newborn baby boy (born June 20) and a 4-year-old Great Dane named Scrappy

Fellowship: Curtis National Hand Center (Hand Surgery)
Clinical interests: Comprehensive orthopaedic care from the scapula to the fingertips, with a particular focus on complex shoulder and elbow reconstruction, peripheral nerve surgery, and hand microvascular surgery

Clinical interests: Revision shoulder arthroplasty, elbow arthroplasty, sports elbow
Why Mayo: This fellowship at Mayo Clinic combines the most extensive revision arthroplasty experience in both shoulder and elbow with complex sports shoulder/elbow training. The atmosphere among the faculty and trainees at the interview felt like a family, and the depth and breadth of pathology I have seen in fellowship is off the charts. I can't imagine training anywhere else!
