Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, provides comprehensive surgical care for patients with benign or malignant breast disease. The Department of Surgery has seven dedicated specialty-trained breast surgical oncologists focused in the care of breast disease. Breast cancer screening, evaluation, and education is performed through the Breast Diagnostic Clinic. Mayo surgeons in Rochester provide definitive surgical management for over 800 patients with breast cancer each year.

Breast surgical oncologists = work together with plastic surgeons where indicated to provide the best surgical care for the patient. At Mayo Clinic, patient evaluations and treatment occur expeditiously. Mayo Clinic pathologists immediately and intraoperatively evaluate resected tissue with frozen section techniques. Direct, face-to-face contact with the pathologist allows the surgeon to verify the tumor margins and other important pathology details.

Mayo Clinic is among the most active breast cancer research facilities in the world. A team of medical professionals from multiple specialties provide innovative treatment strategies often including clinical trial opportunities. 

Hands-on percutaneous biopsy experience is obtained with an external rotation in Memphis, Tennessee. The Mayo Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship covers transportation to Memphis, and housing for this rotation.
