Department and Faculty

The cardiology team at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona provides high-quality, comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic cardiology care to patients. In addition to general cardiology, the department provides all specialty services and uses leading-edge techniques to treat its patients.

Division members are organized into a variety of subspecialty groups, each of which focuses on a particular segment of cardiology or vascular medicine. Their specific expertise is a resource for everyone, enabling the entire division to stay at the leading edge of change in cardiology and vascular medicine.

During your training, your practical experience will span the spectrum of cardiology services and patients.

On average each year, the Cardiovascular Unit at Mayo Clinic in Arizona:

  • Handles more than 90,000 patient cases
  • Performs more than 45,000 ECGs
  • Performs more than 11,000 echo procedures

Mayo Clinic Hospital cares for more than 1,200 patients in their catheterization laboratory and performs more than 1,000 electrophysiology procedures.

The number of patients seen and the wide range of procedures provides for an exceptional cardiovascular learning experience.

Faculty

In addition to caring for patients in their clinical practices, Mayo Clinic's faculty members are committed to teaching and facilitating the growth of medical knowledge. Many of our faculty have published and lectured extensively and are highly regarded in their field. You will have direct access to the Cardiology faculty throughout your training.

Advisers and mentors

You will be assigned a faculty adviser who can provide comprehensive educational advice and personal support. Your adviser also will serve as a contact point, introducing you and your family to the Mayo Clinic system.

Visiting professors

Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work during noon and/or morning lectures and participate in hospital rounds. You will be encouraged to take full advantage of these opportunities.
