Program Director
Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology
Consultant in Laboratory Genetics & Genomics
The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology is one of the world's largest and most sophisticated clinical laboratory and pathology departments. The department performs more than 20 million laboratory tests annually in support of Mayo Clinic practice and more than 4,000 Mayo Clinic Laboratories clients around the world.
Backed by the knowledge and expertise of more than 160 consultants and 3,000 employees in a wide range of professional roles, the department supports patients across the continuum of care, ranging from the patient's bedside to esoteric laboratory and pathology services. The department works collaboratively with its colleagues at Mayo Clinic's campuses in Arizona, Florida, and throughout the Mayo Clinic Health System and has Mayo Clinic Laboratories testing sites in Florida.
Cellular therapy activities for this program take place in these two main laboratories at Mayo Clinic:
These areas include Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and clinical spaces that support one of the top hematopoietic and peripheral blood stem cell isolation and processing groups, as well as one of the most dynamic and broad-based investigative cell therapy programs in the United States.
Additional supportive facilities include translational science wet labs and all facilities needed for development, optimization, validation, and execution of new and established cell therapies.
In addition to caring for patients in clinical practices, Mayo Clinic's faculty is committed to teaching and facilitating the growth of medical knowledge. Many of our faculty members have published and lectured extensively and are highly regarded in their fields.
Throughout your training in the Cellular Therapy Fellowship, you have direct access to faculty who have transfusion medicine specialty training, research scientists directing the IMPACT laboratory, and allied health staff who perform the testing, manufacturing, and preparing of products.
Faculty advisers are available to provide comprehensive educational advice and personal support. You meet with your adviser periodically throughout the program to review your progress and career goals, and ensure that your educational needs are being met.
Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work during lectures, participate in hospital rounds and have informal discussions with trainees. We encourage you to take full advantage of these educational opportunities.
Welcome to the Mayo Clinic Cellular Therapy Fellowship!
I am excited to introduce you to our Cellular Therapy Fellowship program. My own journey at this institution began as a fellow in Transfusion Medicine, where I gained invaluable experience and confidence that have greatly influenced my career. It is a privilege to now serve as the fellowship director in a department with a long-standing tradition of educational excellence, dating back to 1918, when our institution pioneered the concept of physician training through residency.
Our program is exceptional not only because of its state-of-the-art facilities, comprehensive curriculum, and diverse clinical exposure but also because of the remarkable individuals who comprise our team. The founders of our institution placed great importance on teamwork, partnership, and a sense of family, principles that continue to guide the practice of medicine and education at Mayo Clinic. Here, you will encounter dedicated professionals who work together to deliver outstanding patient care.
The aim of our Cellular Therapy Fellowship is to develop the next generation of leaders in the field of cellular therapy and make meaningful contributions to their communities. I am genuinely excited about our fellowship program and believe that Mayo Clinic's Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology offers an outstanding environment for your training!
