Sam Kamoroff, M.D., MHA
During my time in the program I gained extensive hands-on experience managing complex pediatric neurological cases, contributed to several research projects on epilepsy and stroke, and took on leadership roles such as Chief Fellow of Clinical Services and coordinator of educational activities—while simultaneously contributing to a robust research portfolio that includes publication of multiple peer reviewed articles. I was given the opportunity to present multiple poster and oral abstract presentations throughout my three years at a wide variety of conferences. Within the fellowship, I regularly led journal clubs and case-based lectures covering topics such as “Epilepsy of Infancy with Migrating Focal Seizures,” “Delandistrogene moxeparvovec,” and “Ketamine Use in Refractory Status Epilepticus,” which sharpened my teaching skills and personal learning.
Looking forward, I will finish a Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's and then assume a staff position as a Child and Adolescent Neurologist at Deaconess Clinic in Newburgh, IN. I intend to continue my interest on pediatric stroke and complex seizures, leveraging the collaborative networks I built during my fellowship, while providing top-notch care to an underserved area.
What I appreciated most about Jacksonville was the seamless integration of a world class academic environment—centered on Mayo Clinic, Nemours and Wolfson Children's Hospital with a lifestyle that feels like a permanent vacation. The city’s endless miles of Atlantic beaches, the picturesque St. John’s River for kayaking/boating, family friendly neighborhoods like San Marco and Avondale, and a lively cultural scene (live music, art museums, and a burgeoning food scene) made it easy to recharge after long days in the hospital and to foster meaningful connections with colleagues and the community alike.
