Meet Our Residents
The Colon and Rectal Surgery Residency draws trainees from across the U.S. and around the world. While all our residents have a love of learning and a compassionate approach to patient care, they come from diverse backgrounds, family statuses, and professional and personal interests.
Our current resident is:
Jamiela McDonnough, M.D.
Hometown: Long Island, NY
Medical school: Howard University College of Medicine
Fun facts: I have a 16-month-old son who is the absolute best. Also, I love to dance and try new recipes (when time allows).
What drew you to Mayo Clinic for residency training? I really loved that the program was described as "fellow-centric.” The program really caters to the fellow's education and development.
What do you like about Jacksonville? Coming from the Northeast, I'm really enjoying the weather right now.
What makes this program unique? There is a great breadth of complexity to the cases. There is so much "bread and butter" colorectal surgery, but also very complex cases and patient comorbidities. I know I'll be well prepared once I leave here to treat almost everything.
