The Mayo Clinic Fellow Leadership Academy cultivates the next generation of physician leaders by equipping fellows with essential skills for academic medicine, clinical practice, and healthcare innovation. This annual program is designed specifically for fellowship-level trainees nearing the completion of their training, providing crucial leadership and administrative knowledge to prepare fellows for successful transitions into faculty positions and leadership roles.
Through collaboration with executive leaders, interactive skill-building workshops, and networking across subspecialties, participants develop the competencies needed to excel as future leaders at all levels: division and department chairs, program directors, and institutional leaders.

Thank you for your interest in the Mayo Clinic Fellow Leadership Academy! The transition from fellow to attending physician is one of the most critical junctures in your medical career. Our Fellow Leadership Academy exists to ensure you make this transition with confidence, armed with skills that medical training alone cannot provide.

Over four sessions spread throughout an academic year, you'll be introduced to competencies that you'll continue to refine throughout your career: how to position yourself for leadership opportunities, how to interpret and act upon financial data, how to establish a research program and build your academic career, and how to deliver compelling presentations.

This program is designed for fellows who see leadership not as a distant aspiration but as an immediate necessity, who recognize that leading change in healthcare requires intentional skill development starting now.

Application process

Eligibility:

• Current fellows at any Mayo Clinic site (Rochester, Midwest, Florida, or Arizona)
• Program director approval required

The selection process varies by program and typically operates through program director nomination. Requests for participant nominations are sent to all fellowship program directors in the winter or spring preceding the relevant academic year. Fellows interested in participating should express their interest to their program director during or before this nomination period.
