What attracted you to Mayo Clinic for fellowship training? Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville was recognized as the #1 hospital in Florida and provided the opportunity to train with an exceptional group of close-knit faculty. Patients traveled long distances to receive specialized care at Mayo Clinic, resulting in a diverse patient population. I was impressed with the surgical volume at this fellowship and the beautiful location on the beach.

What made the Glaucoma Fellowship at Mayo Clinic unique? This fellowship provided experience with both traditional and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. There was a nice balance between independence in clinic and supervision in the operating room. Fellows graduate with roughly 300 cataract surgeries and get certified in all relevant MIGS procedures. All clinics and surgeries took place in one building, so there was no additional time spent traveling to distant satellite locations. The combination of supportive attendings, friendly patients, and beautiful facilities created an optimal training environment.

What is living in Jacksonville like for you? Jacksonville was a perfect place to live during a fellowship. It was very affordable, had amazing food and restaurants, and plenty of options to live within walking distance from the beach.
