Department and Faculty
The Division of Subspecialty General Surgery at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, has one of the largest and most experienced groups of gastroenterologic, hepato-pancreatico-biliary (HPB) and general surgeons in the United States. Gastrointestinal surgeons provide comprehensive diagnosis, management and follow-up of surgical disorders of the liver, pancreas, biliary, gastrointestinal tract and related conditions.
The 16 staff surgeons perform more than 7,000 operations annually and have a combined 172 years of experience.
Advisers and mentors
You are assigned a faculty adviser who can provide comprehensive clinical, educational and research advice, as well as personal support. The adviser also serves as a contact point, introducing you and your family to Mayo Clinic.
Visiting professors
Many prominent professors and other visiting surgeons visit Mayo Clinic each year to present their work during lectures and interact with Mayo staff in the operating room. Residents and fellows are encouraged to take full advantage of these opportunities to interact with visiting academic surgeons and are provided with time away from clinical assignments to do so.
