What makes this fellowship at Mayo Clinic unique? The Palliative Medicine fellowship is unique because it embodies the three shields of Mayo Clinic. One, the needs of the patient come first. This Mayo Clinic value reaches individuals with serious illnesses through our palliative medicine division. Our multidisciplinary teams enable us to offer a large array of supportive services and provide comprehensive care. Two, the educational experience is unparalleled. The teaching is top-tier because of invested clinician-educators, robust didactics, thorough feedback, and simulation. Three, the fellowship offers research opportunities and has high-impact researchers and quality specialists who mentor fellows.

What makes this fellowship at Mayo Clinic unique? Our fellowship leaders and core faculty have designed an incredibly robust curriculum of clinical rotations, didactics, and elective experiences that help me feel prepared to practice in any area of palliative care.  In addition to time spent on traditional rotations (such as inpatient consults, hospice, and clinic), I really appreciate that we get exposure to the inpatient palliative care service. This is a unique opportunity to assume the primary care of patients with high symptom burden and manage complex end-of-life symptoms.  This has boosted my confidence tremendously and helps me be the best palliative care physician I can be.

What makes this fellowship at Mayo Clinic unique? I was excited about Mayo Clinic's unique inpatient palliative care unit where fellows have the opportunity to learn intensive symptom management skills, the strong communication skills training, the opportunity to work with robust interdisciplinary teams throughout the various clinical settings, the comprehensive didactics curriculum including narrative medicine, and the opportunity to work with other palliative care-trained physiatrists.
