Why did you choose Mayo Clinic? Training at a place with the capabilities and expertise to handle the most complex cases with an unparalleled culture of collaboration between and within disciplines.

What stood out to you about this program? After completing my pulmonary/critical care training at Mayo, I witnessed firsthand the endless opportunities to be fully involved in the most complex airway and pleural cases, supported by the most advanced resources and a dedicated team. It is a high-volume center for both benign and malignant pathology, with one of the largest dedicated interventional pulmonology faculty groups.

The program is rooted in a rich history of innovation and driven by a culture that continually pushes boundaries for patient care. Our faculty members are global leaders who have contributed significantly to the advancement of the field—and they spare no effort in involving fellows in that process. Their long-standing, well-integrated collaborations with thoracic surgery, otolaryngology, oncology, and other disciplines through joint programs and decision-making boards. Interventional Pulmonology is present and plays a central role in all potential scenarios available to our practice

The depth of expertise across all specialties is unmatched. World-renowned experts—whether in IP or any other field—are only an email or a page away. The culture at Mayo is built on a shared commitment to helping colleagues and their patients, while always offering meaningful teaching and learning opportunities.

How has your experience been in this program? When coming to Mayo, your expectations are naturally high—but they were far surpassed by the opportunities offered through the program and the immensely generous, welcoming mentorship consistently provided across the department.

The case volume and complexity are unparalleled. At any given time, there are three to four simultaneous IP-run services, offering fellows consistent opportunities to participate in the most valuable and high-yield cases. The entire faculty is deeply committed to providing a personalized and meaningful training experience. Fellows are actively included in decision-making and academic discussions, making this an exceptional environment for developing both clinical judgment and procedural expertise, while being exposed to cutting edge novel strategies and resources.
