Department and Faculty

Radiologists and staff in the Department of Radiology at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, provide the highest quality diagnostic and interventional imaging services in a caring and efficient manner while sustaining outstanding programs in research and education.

The 115-year-old department — one of the first of its kind — is fully integrated with all the medical services available throughout Mayo Clinic. More than 200 radiologists and physicists cooperate with 1,100 support staff to provide diagnostic and therapeutic radiology services to patients.

Our orthopedists are highly specialized, which increases the degree of expertise involved for both the treating surgeon and musculoskeletal imager. We are one of the top Orthopedic Oncology referral practices in the world, treating a variety of bone and soft tissue tumors.

In addition, we receive many referrals from Rheumatology colleagues and have an engaged Peripheral Nerve Imaging practice. We also see plenty of bread-and-butter cases from our primary care providers.

As a trainee, you will work one-on-one with MSK staff who are leaders in musculoskeletal radiology and develop lasting relationships with staff and co-fellows that will carry throughout your career.

Facilities

Experts in all areas of radiology consult with specialists in other departments to provide the best care to every patient every day. Radiologists work with state-of-the-art equipment, assisted by skilled technologists and nurses, to perform and interpret more than 1 million examinations yearly. From the director

Christin A. Tiegs-Heiden, M.D.I am thrilled to introduce you to one of the best Musculoskeletal Fellowship programs in the nation.

Our strengths lie in the diverse, high-volume pathology from patients seeking care from all over the world, hands-on procedural experience, and graduated autonomy that prepares you to transition into the practice of your choice.

U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked Mayo Clinic as one of the top two hospitals for orthopedics in the country. We are downstream from their practice which allows us to participate in the care of incredibly interesting orthopedic pathology.

This includes the entire spectrum of orthopedic care, including traumatology, joint replacement/revision, and sports injuries. A member of our orthopedic department serves as team physician for our NBA and WNBA teams.

I am a proud graduate of this radiology residency and MSK fellowship program and can attest to the excellent training I received and the commitment to resident education within our department. You will receive the highest quality education at Mayo Clinic in Rochester that will open doors in your career for years to come.
