Alumni

The most important indicator of the success of a training program is found in the outcomes of the graduates upon completion of their training.

Our training program aims to produce leaders and scholars in the field of neonatology who are well prepared to practice in any quaternary NICU setting. In addition to producing exceptional clinicians for both academic and private practice, our program creates graduates hold local and national leadership roles and many have served as NICU medical directors, fellowship program directors, and chairs. Meet some of our graduates.

The ability to tailor graduate medical education at the fellowship level to each learner's professional ambitions is critical to creating true leaders in the field. At Mayo Clinic, I found mentorship in our Division, Department, and within the broader Critical Care environment to develop my skills as a clinician educator and education scientist. The quality of mentors here is unsurpassed, with leadership invested in helping me grow as a clinician, educator, scholar, communicator, and leader within neonatology and within health professions education as a whole.

Neonatologist, Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND

During residency, I was able to create meaningful relationships with the staff in the NICU including mentorship in research and education. As I sought placement in a fellowship program, I was eager to continue to foster these relationships and attracted to the medium volume unit that offered a balance between work and life in addition to prioritizing fellow learning above rote service.

Mayo Clinic is a giant in the medical field, and the chance to train and work alongside individuals who are considered experts amongst their peers was an opportunity I wanted. It wasn't until my interview day that I realized what a gem Mayo Clinic really is. I learned it wasn't the history and the prestige that made Mayo Clinic special, but rather the people.

Consultant in the Division of Neonatal Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science

One of my primary interests is systems-based practices and the translation of policies, protocols, and clinician knowledge into patient care. I also have an interest in vaccines within the neonatal period. NICU graduates tend to be under-immunized both historically within our unit as well as nationally across other units. I have received excellent support for an ongoing quality improvement initiative within our NICU as well as for a research project analyzing this problem on a state-wide basis.
