Department and Faculty
The Department of Neurology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. represents a well-established tertiary referral center where people with a large variety of neuromuscular disorders are evaluated. Conditions range from common pathologies to very rare disorders. About 4,500 individuals with neuromuscular diseases are evaluated, and a comparable number undergo EMG study every year. More than 1,600 muscle biopsies and about 500 nerve biopsies are interpreted annually.
Faculty
Fellows rotate in the neuromuscular clinic, peripheral nerve clinic, EMG laboratories, muscle and nerve pathology laboratories. Under the direction of supervising faculty, fellows evaluate patients, formulate differential diagnoses and treatment plans, perform EMGs and interpret muscle and nerve biopsies. Informal discussion of cases also is encouraged.

Advisers and mentors
To assure increasing responsibility and professional maturation of fellows, during the fellowship you will receive ongoing supervision and feedback. In addition to formal meetings, fellows receive continuous feedback from supervising faculty.
Visiting professors
Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work during afternoon and morning lectures and participate in hospital rounds and informal discussions with residents and fellows. You will be encouraged to take full advantage of these opportunities.
