Department and Faculty

The Department of Pain Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, is made up of a highly integrated, collaborative group of board-certified pain physicians from multiple specialties, including anesthesiology, neurology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. A full-time doctoral-level pain psychologist also is on staff. All members of the department are actively involved in clinical research.

Facilities

During the fellowship, you have regular access to the state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary Pain Rehabilitation Center and J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver Simulation Center located on the Mayo Clinic campus in Jacksonville, Florida.

Faculty

In addition to caring for patients in clinical practices, Mayo Clinic's faculty is committed to teaching and facilitating the growth of medical knowledge. Many faculty members have published and lectured extensively and are highly regarded in their fields. You have direct access to these pain medicine specialists throughout your training in the Pain Medicine Fellowship.

Advisers and mentors

You are assigned a dedicated faculty adviser who can provide comprehensive educational advice and personal support. Trainees meet with their advisers periodically throughout the program to review their progress and career goals, and ensure their educational needs are being met. Your adviser also serves as a contact point for introducing you and your family to Jacksonville, Florida, and the Mayo Clinic system.

Visiting professors

Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work during lectures, participate in hospital rounds and have informal discussions with trainees. You are encouraged to take full advantage of these educational opportunities.
