Department and Faculty

The Department of Dermatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, offers a full range of dermatologic care for both common and rare problems of skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes.

The department has 31 board-certified physicians in three areas of dermatology: medical, surgical, and laboratory. Mayo Clinic has more than 70,000 dermatology outpatient visits each year, and the inpatient dermatology service cares for more than 400 patients annually. Some of these patients have unusual or complicated dermatologic problems and are referred by their physicians; many are self-referred.

Faculty

The Department of Dermatology has three board-certified pediatric dermatologists. They have subspecialty expertise and board certification in pediatric and adolescent medicine, as well as medical genetics. The faculty for this fellowship has many subspecialty focus interests, contributes to medical literature, and presents at national meetings on the following topics:

  • Atopic dermatitis
  • Infantile hemangiomas
  • Vascular birthmarks
  • Psoriasis
  • Genodermatoses
  • Morphea
  • Erythromelalgia

You will have daily interactions with faculty members, both at the bedside and in the office for mentoring.

Advisers

You will be assigned an adviser. There are regularly scheduled meetings for fellows and advisers throughout the fellowship to ensure appropriate guidance and feedback. You have an opportunity to evaluate the faculty via an online anonymous survey tool. Casual meetings between fellows and staff also are encouraged.

Visiting professors

The Department of Dermatology hosts six to eight visiting professors a year. Often these clinicians have expertise and interest in pediatric dermatology. You have the opportunity to attend these lectures and meet with the visiting faculty socially at dinner.
