The Department of Ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota provides services for more than 109,000 outpatient visits per year. Both inpatient and outpatient facilities are state-of-the-art and you will be exposed to leading-edge procedures and equipment.

Mayo Clinic's faculty is committed to teaching and facilitating the growth of medical knowledge. Many faculty members have published and lectured extensively and are well-regarded in their field. You will have direct access to these individuals throughout your training.

The Department of Ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester has 39 staff members, including two Ph.D. researchers. The vitreoretinal service includes six vitreoretinal surgeons, a medical retina specialist, an ocular oncologist, and a uveitis specialist. In addition, there are 16 ophthalmology residents (PGY1-PGY4) and multiple fellows in either clinical or research training.

Advisors and mentors

You will be assigned a faculty advisor who can provide comprehensive educational advice and personal support. Your advisor also will serve as a contact point, introducing you and your family to Rochester and the Mayo Clinic system.

Visiting professors

Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work during noon and/or morning lectures and participate in hospital rounds. You will be encouraged to take full advantage of these opportunities.
