Mayo Clinic's Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology in Rochester, Minnesota, is one of the largest clinical laboratories in the world. It is composed of 3,200 people working in 40 specialty laboratories performing more than 22 million tests each year.
A highly skilled team of medical professionals works collaboratively within the department, including physicians, scientists, pathologists' assistants, medical technologists, medical technicians, lab assistants, biologists, chemists, microbiologists, geneticists and other specialists. The department receives specimens for testing from Mayo Clinic's campuses in Minnesota, Arizona and Florida, as well as Mayo Clinic Health System sites. It is also a reference laboratory for other clinics and hospitals both nationally and internationally.
Mayo Clinic Laboratories is the referral center for Mayo Clinic. Mayo Clinic Laboratories specializes in esoteric laboratory testing for health care organizations throughout the United States and around the world. Mayo Clinic Laboratories supports the local delivery of laboratory services by providing exceptional reference laboratory services and support services that facilitate and augment community integration efforts.
Mayo Clinic's Special Coagulation Laboratory is responsible for, or interacts with, laboratories that perform more than 19,000 tests directly related to coagulation each year.

I am Dr. Anil Ashrani, and I have had the honor of serving as the program director since the fellowship’s inception in 2013. Over the past decade, we have been proud to offer a uniquely structured, high-volume training experience that prepares fellows to become leaders in the field of coagulation and thrombosis.
Our program is designed to provide rigorous clinical and laboratory training in both classical and complex coagulation disorders. At Mayo Clinic, you will learn within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where expert faculty in hematology, laboratory medicine, transfusion medicine, and vascular medicine are deeply invested in your development. Our program provides a breadth of exposure to inherited and acquired bleeding disorders, thrombotic conditions, hemostatic monitoring, and cutting-edge coagulation testing.
What sets this fellowship apart is the integration of patient-centered care with advanced laboratory expertise. Fellows play a key role in clinical consultations, interpret specialized laboratory tests, and engage in scholarly activity to advance both knowledge and practice in hemostasis and thrombosis.
