From the program director
Thank you for your interest in our Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS) Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Mayo Clinic has a rich tradition of vaginal surgery and a longstanding reputation for excellence in surgical innovation, education, research, and patient care. The breadth of surgical complexity and the depth of surgical expertise in our department create an environment where fellows can truly reach their highest potential. We set high standards for ourselves in the service of our patients, and we teach our fellows to aim high as a value. Mayo Clinic is truly a special place, and we enjoy bringing up the next generation of colleagues in this tradition.
As urogynecologists, we offer a comprehensive approach to care for complex female pelvic floor disorders and other conditions that require expertise in vaginal reconstructive surgery. We bring patients through a process of shared decision-making to create plans that are in line with their goals. As such, we offer the full spectrum of nonsurgical and surgical management options for pelvic floor disorders. Surgical training is well-rounded to include vaginal, endoscopic, and abdominal approaches. We see very challenging cases in patients who often have multiple medical and surgical needs. To meet these needs, we routinely coordinate with a variety of other surgical and non-surgical specialties. Our one-on-one surgical apprenticeship model is unique and offers extended periods of time with a single surgical mentor. As a fellow, you also have the option to obtain a master’s degree in biomedical sciences.
We are proud of our graduates who are serving the needs of patients in both academic and community practices across the nation. Following completion of this fellowship, we are confident that you will also have the knowledge and skills to begin a successful and rewarding career in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery.
