Trainees from across the U.S. and around the world are drawn to the Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. While all of our trainees have a love of learning and a compassionate approach to patient care, they come from diverse backgrounds, family status, and professional and personal interests. What makes the Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Fellowship unique? This fellowship is unique in that you will complete a master's degree during the fellowship, which helps you to critically analyze the literature, understand and perform your own statistics, and develop a research thesis project. First-year fellows complete the master's coursework during dedicated research months. Mayo Clinic is also unique in its mentorship model, in which you rotate with one member of the faculty for a few months at a time. This allows for repetition in the OR and counseling patients and affords you graduated autonomy and confidence.

What attracted you to Mayo Clinic for fellowship training? The URPS fellowship at Mayo Clinic offers exposure to unique and challenging cases including complex fistula repair and neovagina creation. The program is structured so that fellows work side-by-side with a single staff member in 10-11 week blocks, allowing fellows to see patients through diagnosis, surgical intervention, and postoperative care.

What are you excited about for fellowship training? I'm excited to spend the first nine months of fellowship beginning a Master's in Biomedical Sciences/ Female Pelvic Medicine. This coursework will lay a strong foundation in research development, which will be invaluable as I begin my fellowship thesis.

What do you like about this fellowship at Mayo Clinic? It’s unique in that it provides an opportunity to earn a master's degree while in the fellowship, which will enable you to critically assess literature, understand and run your own statistics, and construct a research thesis project. The mentorship arrangement is unusual, with you rotating with one member of the faculty for a few months at a time. This allows for repetition in the OR and patient counseling, as well as gradual autonomy and confidence.

What is it like living in Rochester? Safe, family friendly, and fosters a sense of community. I enjoy hiking, dipping in cascade lake, and visiting the Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo with my family.
