Mayo Clinic is collaborating with Rochester Public Schools to launch a fast-track phlebotomy training program that will provide hands-on training for high school students and the opportunity to shadow professionals in the field.

The program aims to help organizations meet the surging demand for phlebotomists and is open to students from Mayo High School, John Marshall High School, and Century High School.

Staff from the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and Human Resources Workforce Development worked with staff from the Rochester Public Schools' Career and Technical Education Center at Heintz to create the program.

About the program

To be eligible to participate in the program, students should be enrolled in one of the Rochester Public Schools or a school in partnership with the Career and Technical Education Center at Heinz, such as Dover-Eyota, Byron, and Pine Island High Schools. Students must be 18 by the end of the 2024-25 school year and enrolled as a high school senior by Fall 2024.

The Phlebotomy Certificate program will run from August 2024 to June 2025 in Rochester. The program is free and will include transportation from the schools.

Students can register for the program by meeting with their high school counselors. Registration is open Jan. 9–May 31 or until the program reaches capacity.
