How to Apply

All current high school freshman, sophomore, and junior students residing in the state of Arizona are welcome to apply. In order to reflect the communities that we serve, students who belong to any of the following groups or interest areas are especially encouraged to apply: diverse, first-generation college students, Upward Bound or STEAM pipelines, underserved, students receiving free or reduced school lunches, or special populations. 

In-Person Program
For Arizona residents only. The in-person program will be held at the Mayo Clinic campus in Phoenix, AZ.

  • Four-weeks from June 3-26, 2025
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays only
  • From 10 a.m.-3 p.m.  
    • June 3-5
    • June 10-12
    • June 17-19
    • June 24-26

Note: Given the competitive and immersive nature of this program, full attendance is required. If you are not able to commit to all of the dates and times as described above, please consider applying in the future. 

Application process

In-Person Program:

Applications for the in-person summer program are open from Dec. 15, 2024 - Feb. 1, 2025. 

Decision notifications for the in-person program will be sent by the end of March. Only freshman, sophomores, and juniors in high school are eligible to apply. 

Virtual Program: 

Applications for the virtual summer program will open in January 2025, date TBD.

Application instructions

Complete the following steps to apply:

Step 1. Create a new user account

    • Create an account to begin the Application for Admission.
    • Select the option: "Start a Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science Experience Application".
    • Choose: Mayo Clinic CARES Program (In-Person)

Step 2. Create a new application

  • Select the option: "Start a Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science Experience Application".
  • Complete each section of the application and submit.
  • Essays: You will be asked to complete three essay questions. We highly value responses that are authentic, thoughtful and demonstrate how you have overcome challenges or adversities that have helped you become the person you are today.

Tuition and fees

There is no cost to participate. This is Mayo Clinic’s service to our community. 

Students selected to participate will receive a stipend for their full participation in the program. If students miss program days, funds will be deducted from their stipend.
