There are two different options for the Mayo Clinic CARES program, an in-person program and a virtual program. You will need to choose your preferred program option before beginning the application process. 

Option 1: In-Person Program
(For Arizona residents only. The in-person program will be based at the Mayo Clinic campuses in Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona.)

• Program dates: Four-week commitment, from June 4-27, 2024
• Schedule: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays only

Option 2: Virtual Program
(For Arizona residents only. Preference given to non-Maricopa County applicants.)

• Dates: One-week commitment, from July 8-12, 2024
• Schedule: 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday through Friday

Note: Students can apply for only one program option. Given the competitive and immersive nature of this program, full attendance is required. If time commitment is not possible, please consider applying in the future. 

Application process

All current high school freshman, sophomore, and junior students located in the state of Arizona are welcome to apply.

In order to reflect the communities that we serve, students who belong to any of the following groups or interest areas are especially encouraged to apply: diverse, first-generation college students, Upward Bound or STEAM pipelines, underserved, students receiving free or reduced school lunches, or special populations.

Tuition and fees

There is no cost to participate. This is Mayo Clinic’s service to our community. Students selected to participate will receive a stipend for their full participation in the program.
