Application Process
Positions
The Nurse-Midwifery Fellowship offers two tracks:
- The first track is Entry to Practice for new midwives or re-entry midwives who desire additional clinical training and mentorship. The Entry to Practice learner will complete 1,950 practice hours in 12 months, including 296 didactic hours and 1,654 clinical hours. This is also an opportunity for a midwife that may wish to refresh their skills to re-enter practice after a period of time away.
- The second track is Advanced Level care for midwives who have completed three or more years of midwife practice and desire experience with high-risk and complex patients. The Advanced Level learner will complete 1,950 practice hours in 12 months with 352 didactic hours and 1,598 clinical hours.
Admission requirements
Prerequisites
Nurse-Midwifery fellows are required to have an active registered nursing (RN) license and an active advanced practice certified nurse-midwife (CNM) license in the state of Minnesota. Additional RN and CNM licenses in Wisconsin are preferred. Nurse-Midwifery fellows are required to be board certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board and have NRP and BLS certification.
You do not need proof at time of application but must provide documentation of completion prior to fellowship start date. It may take 6-9 months to complete the licensure process in Minnesota and/or Wisconsin. Applicants are highly encouraged to start the licensure application process as soon as possible

Non-U.S. citizen applicants
Admission to Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences is open to U.S. workers in the four categories below. Therefore, visa sponsorship is not available.

Applicants whose primary language is not English must submit results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT). Scores from the speaking portion of the exam are given particular consideration in admission decisions. Learn more about the exam and register online at the Educational Testing Service.
The Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences code for the TOEFL iBT is 5784.
Educational transcripts from schools outside the U.S. must be translated (if they are not already in English) and evaluated for U.S. equivalence by an accredited credential evaluation service company prior to submission. Please refer to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services for a list of qualified companies. The applicant pays for the examination and credential-evaluation services.

The next Nurse-Midwifery Fellowship application window opens on March 1, 2024. Your application and all supporting documentation must be received between March 1-May 31, 2024. The program will begin in March 2025.

Complete the following steps to apply:

- Indicate Entry-to-Practice or Advanced Level track for application
- Complete each section of the application and submit
- After submission, view the required Supplemental Items and Documents
- Upload each required item in the Supplemental Items section
- Complete the Recommendation Request section.

- Essay (500 words or less): Please describe your work/clinical experience and why a Nurse-Midwifery Fellowship would be an asset to you
- Two recommendations from a preceptor, supervisor, or co-worker are required and must be completed in the Recommendation Request section. Each recommender will receive an email with a link to complete a rating form and upload a letter.
Interview process
Virtual interviews will take place with a multidisciplinary team at Mayo Clinic. Dates will be June 11-12, 2024, for the March 2025 start and Feb. 12 & 13, 2025 for the September 2025 start.
Acceptance
Applicants will be informed via email of acceptance into the March 2025 program by July 3, 2024.
