Overview

Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences offers an intensive and comprehensive Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Mayo Clinic's campus in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona.

Program highlights

At present, there are only a small number of formalized programs in the U.S. for advanced practice providers to train in infectious diseases.

Infectious disease specialists provide both inpatient and outpatient services to medically complex and immune-suppressed patients; serve administrative roles in quality, antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship, infection prevention and control; public health, epidemic prevention and management; and clinical and basic sciences research.

Mayo Clinic is well suited for this fellowship due to Mayo’s extensive investments in graduate medical education, our current ACGME fellowship, the large number of advanced practice providers working at Mayo and the number of advanced practice providers training programs in our region.

Supervision and assessment will be by the interdisciplinary faculty of the division of infectious diseases including advanced practice providers, physicians, pharmacists, and nurses.

Program goals

The fellow will complete one year of formalized training for graduated and licensed advanced practice providers, based on the six core competencies:

  • Patient care
  • Medical knowledge
  • Practice-based learning and environment
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professionalism
  • Systems-based practice

Completion and certification

After successfully completing the fellowship, you will receive a certificate of completion from Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences.
