Overview
Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences offers an intensive and comprehensive Infectious Diseases Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant Fellowship. The fellowship is based at Mayo Clinic's campus in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Arizona.
Program highlights
Currently, only a small number of formalized infectious diseases training programs exist for advanced practice providers in the United States.
Infectious disease specialists provide inpatient and outpatient care for medically complex and immunosuppressed patients. They also serve administrative roles in quality, antimicrobial stewardship, and diagnostic stewardship. Additional responsibilities include infection prevention and control, public health, epidemic prevention and management, and research in clinical and basic sciences.
Mayo Clinic is well-suited for this fellowship because of its extensive investment in graduate medical education. Additional strengths include its current ACGME fellowship and numerous advanced practice providers. Mayo Clinic also offers several advanced practice provider training programs throughout the region.
Supervision and assessment are provided by the interdisciplinary faculty in the Division of Infectious Diseases. Faculty includes advanced practice providers, physicians, pharmacists, and nurses.
Program goals
The fellowship provides one year of formalized training for licensed advanced practice providers. Training is based on these six core competencies:
- Patient care
