Application Process

Positions

Each year, Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences admits one student to the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Infectious Diseases Fellowship. This ensures that you receive tailored instruction and a comprehensive educational experience.

Admission requirements

Prerequisites

To be eligible for the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Infectious Diseases Fellowship, you must have:

  • Eligibility to live and work in the U.S.
  • Graduated from an accredited nurse practitioner or physician assistant program
  • National board certification
  • A license in the state of Arizona or be eligible for a license
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration license or eligible for license
  • Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications

Please note: Candidates who have not yet graduated may apply and be successfully appointed to the fellowship, provided they meet each prerequisite before the start of the fellowship.

Interested nurse practitioners who are certified as adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioners, acute care nurse practitioners, or family nurse practitioners are encouraged to apply.

Candidates are selected based on grades, work and volunteer experiences, leadership qualities, representation of individual qualities and skills, and written capabilities as demonstrated in a personal statement.

Application timeline

Apply between Program start date Apply
Jan. 2 - May 1 Mid-October Online application

Your application and all supporting documentation must be received by May 1 of the year in which you wish to begin the program. The program begins in mid-October.

Application instructions

Complete the following steps to apply:

  1. Create an account to begin the online Application for Admission
    • Select - Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences
    • Select - Infectious Diseases Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Fellowship
  2. Complete each section of the application and submit
  3. After submission, view the required Supplemental Items and Documents
    • Upload each required item in the Supplemental Items section
    • Complete the Recommendation Request section

Additional required items

  • CV/resume.
  • Three letters of recommendation are required and must be completed in the Recommendation Request section. Each recommender will receive an email with a link to complete a rating form and upload a letter.
  • Personal statement.
  • Unofficial transcripts may be uploaded in the Supplemental Items area for application purposes. If admitted to the program, official transcripts must be provided directly from the institution(s) prior to the start of the program.

Interview process

The selection committee carefully reviews each application. Individuals considered for acceptance are invited for an in-person or virtual interview, depending on the situation.

Acceptance

The candidate selected for the fellowship will be contacted by phone. Acceptance letters are mailed in June. Your reply is expected within 10 days.
