Clinical training and rotations

The NP/PA fellows will initiate their education in the microbiology lab and with our inpatient pharmacy/antimicrobial stewardship team, utilizing well-established partnerships and didactic coursework to gain baseline knowledge. Fellows will then rotate with the inpatient and outpatient infectious diseases teams in mentored, team-based bedside education and patient care. Additionally, fellows will have the opportunity to rotate with specialties of personal interest to expand the depth of their understanding of holistic infectious diseases care, such as orthopedic surgery, solid organ transplant, nephrology, palliative care, or hematology/oncology.

Didactic coursework

Didactic education will be structured with clear expectations and include a mixture of lectures, assigned reading, online modules, medical grand rounds, educational conferences, journal clubs, and case presentations.

For the majority of the fellowship, the learning schedule primarily includes weekday hours, with a commitment of approximately 40 to 50 hours weekly, which includes time for the expected didactic learning. The rotations may vary with eight- to 10-hour days, four to five days a week depending on the outpatient or inpatient schedule.
