Overview
The Solid Organ Transplant Nurse Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Arizona is a comprehensive education experience for registered nurses transitioning into the role of an ambulatory RN transplant coordinator. This fellowship will prepare you to work within an interdisciplinary team to facilitate the transplant patient’s continuum of care through care coordination, resource utilization, and clinical documentation.
You will have approximately 18 weeks of asynchronous, synchronous, and supervised clinical experiences. These experiences will prepare you to apply your new knowledge and skills to meet the American Nurses Association and International Transplant Nurses Society standards of nursing practice for solid organ transplant nurses. By the end of the program, you will be competent to provide high-quality care to transplant patients in a fast-paced environment as a registered nurse transplant coordinator.

- Demonstrate skills to integrate evidence-based practice guidelines, symptom management tools, standards, and protocols in patient evaluation and care.
- Demonstrate the clinical skills needed in the transplant nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation; and apply clinical skills to provide safe, effective, and compassionate transplant patient care.
- Illustrate cultural competency, cultural humility, and respect for diversity in all professional interactions, including all domains of social determinants of health.
- Demonstrate appropriate skills for interpersonal, professional, and therapeutic communication with patients and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Discuss learning and performance goals for life-long, self-directed learning in the specialty of solid organ transplant nursing to enhance and innovate patient care.
Completion and certification
Upon successful completion of the Solid Organ Transplant Nurse Fellowship, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences. Upon meeting eligibility criteria, solid organ transplant nurses are eligible to take the Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC), Certified Clinical Transplant Nurse (CCTN), or Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator certification exams through the American Board for Transplant Certification.
