Position
The Nurse-Midwifery fellow completes 1,950 practice hours in 12 months, including approximately 296 didactic hours and 1,654 clinical hours.
Admission requirements
Prerequisites
Nurse-Midwifery fellows are required to have an active registered nursing (RN) license and an active advanced practice certified nurse-midwife (CNM) license in the state of Minnesota. Additional RN and CNM licenses in Wisconsin are preferred. Nurse-Midwifery fellows are required to be board certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board and have NRP and BLS certification.
You do not need proof at time of application but must provide documentation of completion prior to fellowship start date. It may take 6-9 months to complete the licensure process in Minnesota and/or Wisconsin. Applicants are highly encouraged to start the licensure application process as soon as possible

Applicants whose primary language is not English must submit results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT). Scores from the speaking portion of the exam are given particular consideration in admission decisions. Learn more about the exam and register online at the Educational Testing Service.
The Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences code for the TOEFL iBT is 5784.
Educational transcripts from schools outside the U.S. must be translated (if they are not already in English) and evaluated for U.S. equivalence by an accredited credential evaluation service company prior to submission. Please refer to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services for a list of qualified companies. The applicant pays for the examination and credential-evaluation services.

The next Nurse-Midwifery Fellowship application window opens June 15, 2025. Your application and all supporting documentation must be received between June 15, 2025 and August 15, 2025. The program will begin in March 2026.

- Complete each section of the application and submit
- After submission, view the required Supplemental Items and Documents
- Upload each required item in the Supplemental Items section
- Complete the Recommendation Request section.

- Essay (500 words or less): Please describe your work/clinical experience and why a Nurse-Midwifery Fellowship would be an asset to you
- Two recommendations from a preceptor, supervisor, or co-worker are required and must be completed in the Recommendation Request section. Each recommender will receive an email with a link to complete a rating form and upload a letter.
Interview process
Virtual interviews will take place on Aug. 27 and 28, 2025 for the March 2026 start. You will be contacted shortly after the application cycle closes regarding the interview process.
Acceptance
Applicants will be informed via email of acceptance into the March 2026 program by September 30, 2025.
