The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic's campus in Arizona treats between 7,000 and 10,000 patients each year. Treatments include:

  • Arthroscopy
  • Bone and joint infections
  • Fractures
  • Foot and ankle surgery
  • Total joint replacement of the hip and knee
  • Total knee arthroplasty

The Adult Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship focuses on treatment of the hip and knee. At Mayo Clinic's campus in Arizona, the Department of Orthopedic Surgery performs nearly 1,000 orthopedic surgical procedures each year involving the hip and knee.

The department includes nine orthopedic specialists. Four have subspecialty training in adult reconstructive surgery involving knee and hip injuries, including complete hip replacements. During training, you are supervised by these specialists.

Faculty

In addition to caring for patients in clinical practice, Mayo Clinic's faculty is committed to teaching and facilitating the growth of medical knowledge. Many of our faculty members have published and lectured extensively and are highly regarded in their fields.

You have direct access to these individuals throughout your training in the Adult Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship, giving you the opportunity to learn from experienced Mayo Clinic orthopedic surgeons.

Advisers and mentors

You are assigned a dedicated faculty adviser who can provide comprehensive educational advice and personal support. You meet with your adviser periodically throughout the program to review your progress and career goals, and ensure your educational needs are being met. Also, your adviser serves as a contact point for introducing you and your family to the Phoenix area and the Mayo Clinic system.

Visiting professors

Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work during lectures, participate in hospital rounds, and have informal discussions with trainees. You are encouraged to take full advantage of these educational opportunities.
