Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship in Jacksonville, Florida, three doctors review scans on monitors.

Our Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship at Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida, is designed to provide an opportunity for clinical radiology and research training at the advanced fellowship level.

During the fellowship, you will work closely with staff consultants and have opportunities for involvement in current research programs or the formulation of original investigations.

Clinical training

This fellowship emphasizes inpatient and outpatient chest radiography, thoracic CT, cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI with additional training provided in thoracic MRI, CT and MR angiography, and image-guided thoracic interventions. The flexibility of the program allows you to pursue balanced training in thoracic and cardiac radiology or focused thoracic or cardiac imaging tracks.

Didactic training

Didactic training occurs in the setting of the core resident and fellow lecture series, one-on-one instruction, case conferences, journal club, and visiting professor lectures.

Multidisciplinary conferences

You will attend and participate in multidisciplinary conferences supported by the Divisions of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Imaging.

The Division of Thoracic Imaging participates in weekly thoracic tumor boards and weekly interstitial lung disease conferences. The Division of Cardiovascular Imaging participates in weekly resident and fellow case conferences broadcast from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, weekly cardiovascular imaging grand rounds, and monthly resident/fellow interesting case reviews mixed with didactic lectures.

Call frequency

Call schedules vary by individual rotation. Mayo Clinic follows the recommendations of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In general, call schedule frequency is approximately five to eight weekly call shifts spread over the 12-month fellowship year (approximately one week of call every six weeks). Call during the weekdays entails faculty back up after hours from home. Weekend call entails signing off on all cardiothoracic imaging exams performed throughout the weekend. A workstation is provided for remote access for call duties.

Teaching opportunities

You will have the opportunity to teach Mayo Clinic radiology residents, Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine students, and visiting students from other medical schools through daily clinical rotations and formal didactic lectures.

You will be required to build and present at least one didactic lecture for residents, to be presented in the spring term.

Evaluation

To ensure that program performance expectations are met, constructive feedback is provided throughout the fellowship year. In addition to daily case-by-case real-time feedback, you receive formal rotation evaluations on a monthly basis. You also have the opportunity to evaluate faculty to ensure that your educational needs are being met and/or exceeded.
