Overview
The one-year Clinical Neurophysiology Electromyography Fellowship at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, prepares you for an academic or integrated private practice career by providing you with experience in teaching, research and clinical studies. After completing your training, you will have the knowledge and experience necessary to establish and supervise a clinical neurophysiology laboratory as well as perform high-quality advanced studies.
The fellowship also offers formal neurophysiology coursework, multiple research opportunities and experience in the neuromuscular clinic.
In addition to standard nerve conduction and electromyographic techniques, you learn about:
- Single-fiber electromyography (EMG)
- Evoked potentials
- The clinical evaluation of patients with neuromuscular disorders
With the flexibility of this program, you can also have exposure to and develop experience in:
- Central EMG (including Botox injection)
- Surgical monitoring
Accreditation
The program fulfills the training requirements for board certification in EMG as defined by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM) and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Certification
After successfully completing the program, you are strongly encouraged to take the subspecialty certification examination in clinical neurophysiology offered by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
Program history
The Clinical Neurophysiology Electromyography Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, began in 1960 and was accredited in 1996. Since inception, over 45 fellows have completed the program. We anticipate that one trainee will complete this program annually.
