Overview
The goal of the Hospital Medicine Fellowship at Mayo Clinic Health System — Eau Claire, is to train physicians who will provide outstanding collaborative and comprehensive inpatient care, who become expert clinicians and future leaders in hospital medicine.
Hospital Medicine is the fastest-growing medical specialty which requires diverse and unique skill sets. Hospitalists must be able to care for acutely ill adults with a wide spectrum of diseases while engaging in effective interprofessional collaboration.
Through the Hospital Medicine Fellowship, you will:
- Develop skills and expertise in managing the complex adult inpatient population admitted to the general medical and surgical floor, progressive care unit, and intensive care unit
- Refine skills in providing consultation for common inpatient medical problems in the behavioral health unit and in the gynecology and obstetrics department
- Learn how to coordinate inpatient care, communicate effectively with the care team and consultant services, provide evidence-based care in community-based hospitals in a rural setting, and create safe discharge plans
- Develop skills in Point of Care Ultrasound for diagnostic aid and procedures purposes such as central line placement, paracentesis, and thoracentesis
