Application Process

Positions

One position is available on a competitive basis each year in the Medical Speech-Language Pathology Postdoctoral Fellowship at Mayo Clinic's campus in Minnesota. However, if a current fellow elects to study for a second year, no fellows are admitted to the program that year.

Qualifications

Selection of fellows for the Medical Speech-Language Pathology Postdoctoral Fellowship is competitively based on academic and clinical background, academic success, letters of recommendations, and post-program professional goals compatible with those of this fellowship. The highest ranked applicants are generally invited for an interview, which also becomes part of the selection process.

Applicants must meet these criteria:

  • Have a Ph.D. in speech-language pathology or have met all requirements for the doctoral degree prior to starting the fellowship.
  • Preferably, hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). If the applicant does not hold a CCC, they must obtain it during the first year of the fellowship.
  • Possess good English language and speech abilities (because this fellowship emphasizes patient care and communication with patients is crucial to the standard of care and because the majority of patients have English as a primary language).

The recommender will receive an email with a link to upload a letter.

Applicants considered for an appointment will be invited for a personal interview with the program director and selected faculty.

Interviews are conducted between December and February each year unless the current fellow elects to remain in the program for a second year of study.
