The Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at Mayo Clinic offers a variety of services to meet the needs of patients with mood disorders.
Track 1: Clinical Psychiatry
This pathway is open to fully trained psychiatrists or psychiatry residents in their final year of training who are eligible for a Minnesota medical license (M.D. or D.O.).

Track 2: Clinical Psychology
The clinical pathway for psychologists is open to postdoctorate-level psychologists, or those who are in their final year of postdoctoral training and are eligible for a Minnesota psychology license.

Track 3: Research*
This pathway is open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds, including:
- Psychiatrists or psychiatry residents in their final year of training
- Physicians from medical specialties other than psychiatry, who are interested in mood research, such as a cardiologist with interest in cardiovascular health of persons with bipolar disorder
- Postdoctoral-level psychologists or those in their final year of postdoctoral training
- Postdoctoral-level basic scientists with an interest in mood
For the research pathway, a medical or psychology license is not required. Therefore, this track is open to non-U.S.-trained applicants.
*For trainees with an interest in child and adolescent psychiatry or psychology, adjustments will be made so your training will be with the child and adolescent patient population.
