Department and Faculty
The Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, is one of the largest psychiatric treatment groups in the United States, with more than 80 psychiatrists and psychologists involved in nearly every aspect of psychiatry and clinical psychology. We have four inpatient units at Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester, including a general adult unit, a child and adolescent unit, a mood disorders unit, and a unit shared by medical-psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry.
We also operate intensive outpatient programs for patients with substance use disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders and chronic pain. Our extensive outpatient psychosomatic medicine and clinical health psychology services are built on collaborative care models with medical and surgical colleagues in primary care, transplant medicine and surgery, oncology, neurology and neurosurgery, GI medicine, vestibular disorders, and weight management, gender identity and women's health.
Faculty
In addition to caring for patients in clinical practice, Mayo Clinic's faculty is committed to teaching and facilitating the growth of medical knowledge. Many of our faculty members have published and lectured extensively and are highly regarded in their fields. You work closely with these individuals throughout your training in the Mood Fellowship.
Advisers and mentors
Faculty advisers are available to provide comprehensive educational advice and personal support. You meet with your adviser periodically throughout the program to review your progress and career goals, and ensure that your educational needs are being met. Your adviser may serve as a contact point for introducing you and your family to Rochester, Minnesota, and the Mayo Clinic system.
Visiting professors
Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work during lectures, participate in hospital rounds and have informal discussions with trainees. You are encouraged to take full advantage of these educational opportunities.
