Curriculum

A musculoskeletal imaging fellow in the reading room at Mayo Clinic

The one-year Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Arizona offers a broad, in-depth curriculum that covers all fundamentals of musculoskeletal imaging.

Clinical training

Your clinical time includes the following rotations:

  • Advanced musculoskeletal MRI/CT
  • Bone radiography
  • Musculoskeletal interventional procedures
  • Electives in spine imaging and intervention, pediatrics, body MRI, as well as other areas

Elective opportunities

You are given up to two four-week blocks of elective time that can be spent with our Mayo Clinic neuroradiologists learning spine imaging and interventions. Also, time may be spent at Phoenix Children's Hospital in pediatric musculoskeletal imaging.

Conferences

During the Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship, you participate in the following recurring conferences:

  • Combined musculoskeletal MRI conferences with Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and Jacksonville, Florida
  • Interdisciplinary tumor conference
  • Intradepartmental MR arthroscopy correlation conference
  • Musculoskeletal journal club
  • Musculoskeletal didactic conferences

In addition, you can participate in multiple conferences offered by the other radiology subspecialty areas and our orthopedic surgery department.

Research training

Mayo Clinic's musculoskeletal-imaging division in Arizona is actively involved in clinical research and has won awards for its research projects at national meetings. You are expected to participate in one or more projects with the musculoskeletal-imaging staff during your fellowship year.
