Call frequency
The fellowship call schedule is different for each rotation. Mayo Clinic follows the recommendations of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In general, fellows take six weeks of call during the second six months of the fellowship.
Didactic training
Clinical conferences, seminars, small discussion groups, journal clubs, and one-on-one instruction are integral parts of this fellowship.
Conferences
As part of this program, you are expected to:
- Attend departmental meetings and conferences
- Develop and make presentations at departmental conferences
- Attend conferences at research facilities
- Prepare papers for presentation at research conferences
Research training
Involvement in a research project is required during the fellowship. You should identify a topic and mentor during the first quarter of the fellowship. You are expected to present the results at a national or international society meeting or publish the project in a peer-reviewed journal, or both. Research presentation to the department at the end of the fellowship also is expected.
Teaching opportunities
You have the opportunity to teach students from Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine and visiting students from other medical schools through daily clinical work and formal didactic lectures.
Evaluation
To ensure that you acquire adequate knowledge and develop the appropriate technical skills to meet program expectations, your performance is monitored carefully during the Nuclear Radiology Fellowship. You are formally evaluated by supervising faculty members on a quarterly basis. In addition, you regularly evaluate the faculty to confirm that your educational needs are being met.
