Why ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic?

Mayo Clinic was a natural choice for me since I had been with the department while pursuing my research fellowship. I was thoroughly impressed by the faculty's commitment to patient care and education. Mayo Clinic is rightly proud of its diversity and warmly welcomes people from all backgrounds.

What is something you love most about this program?

The ophthalmology residency program at Mayo Clinic provides an ideal balance of academic, clinical, and surgical opportunities with graduated autonomy each year of training. Residents are able to manage complex ophthalmic pathology with the support of a large faculty of subspecialty-trained ophthalmologists. My experiences caring for patients as a resident at Mayo Clinic have taught me more than I could have ever imagined and prepared me for success in the next phase of my career.

What attracted you to Mayo Clinic?

Our patients come from all over the world to place their trust in Mayo and its outstanding reputation, gifting us with the privilege of caring for a unique and diverse population. It’s a very special and comforting feeling knowing that, under one roof, Mayo has world renowned experts in every specialty to help in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The collegial environment truly nurtures Mayo’s most coveted value: “the needs of the patient come first.” I am honored to be training at an institution that continually sets the gold standard in caring for patients.

Why ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic?

Mayo Clinic is an incredible place to train, not only because of the support you get from the institution, but because of the remarkable consultants in every field of medicine working around you. I feel inspired by my colleagues daily at Mayo. I also love the autonomy of the Department of Ophthalmology.

I chose this program because of how strong the graduating residents are clinically. In the department, we see a huge variety of pathology and are lucky to manage very complex patients, which I think will ultimately make me a great ophthalmologist.
