Curriculum
Clinical training
Clinical training in the one-year Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship includes outpatient evaluation and hospital activities. Prior to the start of the appointment, the program director and fellow will review the yearlong curriculum to maximize the educational experience of the fellow.
Research training
During the fellowship, you have the opportunity to participate in research, develop protocols, conduct studies, and submit articles to peer-reviewed journals. There is one half-day each week devoted to research, and there is additional time available to work on clinical studies during faculty absences.
Conferences
Clinical conferences, seminars, small discussion groups, journal clubs, and one-on-one instruction are integral parts of the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship. You're encouraged to take full advantage of these opportunities:
- Sports medicine conference (fellow is responsible for organizing and presenting cases)
- Shoulder and elbow conference
- Orthopedic Grand Rounds
- Sports medicine journal club
- Arthroscopy educational seminar
Teaching opportunities
In addition to increasing your own knowledge base, you're expected to participate in orthopedic resident and medical student education through sports conferences.
Evaluation
The evaluation procedures used in the fellowship include quarterly written evaluations prepared by each consultant. The evaluations are reviewed with you and then filed in your permanent file. At the end of each quarter, you're encouraged to submit a written evaluation of your experience with each consultant.
